Welcome to your 4th Trimester

Your world has changed since your baby arrived! Your baby’s entrance to this world is special and amazing, but this can also be a busy and stressful time. We want to help you and your family adjust to this new world and give you a place to help keep up with what’s happening and what needs to be done.

We listed some important information that may be helpful during this special time. You can call, text, or email us with any questions.

Caring for Yourself

Caring for yourself is an important part of caring for your family. Here’s some helpful information for you and your needs.

Post-Partum Check-up

See your doctor to get your post-partum check-up. You can get a gift card for completing your check-up within 7-84 days of delivery.

During this visit, your doctor will ask how you are doing and answer any questions. Your doctor will:
  • Make sure you are healing well
  • Talk to you about post-partum depression
  • Discuss contraceptives if needed

Learn More

You can see a Primary Care Provider (PCP), any necessary specialists, and access mental health services.

Your body, hormones, and family have gone through many changes over the past few months. Use your support system as you heal and adjust to all the changes. Rest when you can. Ask for help if you need it. Talk to your doctor about any concerns.

Caring for Baby

It’s important to make sure your baby is healthy and stays healthy. It’s ok if you don’t know what to do sometimes. Here are some ways to make sure your baby receives the best care and stays healthy.

  • Take your baby to their newborn check-ups. These are important to make sure your baby is healthy and developing well. You'll get gift cards for taking your baby to these visits. See our Extra Benefits page to learn more.
  • Learn when you should take your baby to the ER and when you should go to your PCP. Please see the some of the common baby concerns in the baby FAQs below.
  • Driscoll Health Plan offers parenting classes. You can learn helpful information on how to put your baby to sleep safely, bathing, swaddling, and more. Learn more about DHP parenting classes
  • Driscoll Health Plan also offers a car seat safety class called Kids in Safety Seats (KISS). It is important to safely secure your baby in the car. You should also know which car seat to use as your child grows. Learn more about car seat safety.

Ask for Help

Caring for a baby is a lot of work. Having friends and family is a great way to get extra help and support. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

  • It may be hard for you to accept help, but we urge you to use your support system. This will help to relieve the stress and you can rest during this time.
  • Family and friends often think they are helping when they show up and hold the new baby. This is helpful, but when they ask what you need, don't be afraid to mention the dishes, laundry, trash, and groceries that they can also help with. Every mom needs a hand.
  • Your family is also experiencing changes. Siblings are sharing their mom with someone new, and dads are adjusting too. Everyone needs to have the chance to talk about their feelings and work together to make the transition easier.

Additional Assistance

If your family has any other needs such as transportation, foods stamps, or housing assistance, we may be able to connect you with community resources. Check out the Assessments section below and complete the SDOH assessment. A member of our team will contact you to assist.
