What is an Emergency and an Emergency Medical Condition?
A CHIP Perinate Member is defined as an unborn child. Emergency care is a covered service if itdirectly relates to the delivery of the unborn child until birth. Emergency care is provided for the following Emergency Medical Conditions:
Medical screening examination to determine emergency when directly related to the deliveryof the covered unborn child;
Stabilization services related to the labor with the delivery of the covered unborn child;
Emergency ground, air, and water transportation for labor and threatened labor is a covered benefit;
Emergency ground, air, and water transportation for an emergency associated with (a) miscarriage or (b) a non-viable pregnancy (molar pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, or a fetus that expired in utero) is a covered benefit.
Benefit limits: Post-delivery services or complications resulting in the need for emergencyservices for the mother of the CHIP Perinate are not a covered benefit.
