Updates to Authorization Letters and Approvals
Families from across South Texas came together at the Pharr Aquatic Center for Safe Summer Splash. The event was hosted by Junior League of McAllen, Driscoll Health Plan, Driscoll Children's Hospital RGV and the City of Pharr. It was the first event of its kind for the group.
More than 100 volunteers came together with one goal: to help families stay safe around water. Many families in South Texas do not have access to swimming lessons or water safety classes. Yet, families enjoy pools and other water activities all year long. Safe Summer Splash gave families a chance to learn simple skills that can help prevent accidents and save lives.
One of the most important parts of the day was hands-on CPR training. EMS providers from Driscoll Children's Hospital RGV led the training under the guidance of Dr. Frankie Fike and other emergency responders.
One CPR training session showed why this work matters. A mother learned CPR while her children watched closely. They saw her learn an important skill that could help save a life one day. With the right skills and preparation, families can enjoy time in and around water more safely.
Unidos Contra La Diabetes taught families why it is important to drink plenty of water in extreme heat. Driscoll Health Plan provided sunscreen and shared tips on how to protect skin from sun while enjoying time outside.
Safe Summer Splash was more than a day at the pool. It was a chance to learn lifesaving skills and help families fell more confident around water.
