Empowering Potty Time 

Driscoll Health Plan works with Empower Behavioral Health to help caregivers with potty training tips. Through our value-added services program, members under 20 years old with autism and incontinence can join. *Restrictions and limitations apply.

The program includes a short 30-minute online educational session and a 3-to-4-hour one-on-one training session. 

Empowering Potty Time is a potty-training program for eligible Driscoll Health Plan STAR Kids members at no cost. It uses proven strategies based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Empowering Potty Time FAQs

What is Empowering Potty Time?   

Empowering Potty Time is a free potty-training program for eligible Driscoll Health Plan members. Members under 20 years of age with autism and incontinence can join the program. You can get up to two $20 gift cards when you finish the program. *Restrictions and limitations may apply. The program is developed with proven strategies based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.

What is ABA? 

ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis, a treatment used to help people with autism learn communication and social skills.

How long is the program?  

The program has two parts.  

Part 1:  A 30-minute online educational session.

Part 2: A 3-to-4-hour individual training session depending on member needs.

The program's length will differ for every child based on their needs. The average completion time is 2 weeks, but this may not be the case for everyone. The educational sessions are 30 minutes and are offered several times throughout the year in a virtual group setting. After the educational session, there will be a 3-to-4-hour individual training session in person or online, depending on your needs. You will learn how to do the potty-training program in your home during the individual training.  Any questions about the program should be asked during the individual training.  If you have questions after the individual training, contact Empower Behavioral Health for help.

How is the program education provided? 

Part 1: All education sessions are online. Registration must be complete before the class date.

Part 2: Families that continue with the individual sessions will work with Empower directly. Both in-person and virtual options will be available. Empower will contact you to schedule sessions.

Who will be teaching Empowering Potty Time?   

Driscoll Health Plan is partnering with Empower Behavioral Health, an ABA provider in the Nueces and Hidalgo Service Area. Empower Behavioral Health will teach the education session and provide individual training sessions.

Who can sign up for Empowering Potty Time? 

This program is open to eligible Driscoll Health Plan members up to age 20 with a diagnosis of autism and incontinence.  Driscoll Health Plan will text eligible members before the upcoming educational session.

Will there be incentives given for this program? 

Driscoll Health Plan members who complete the 30-minute online educational session will receive a gift card. 

Driscoll Health Plan members who complete the Empowering Potty Time program will receive a gift card.

How soon can I expect my gift card?  

Driscoll Health Plan will mail gift cards to the mailing address on the member record through the United States Postal Service. Cards may take up to 30-45 days to arrive. Members should report address changes to Driscoll Health Plan on a timely basis.

Does the Driscoll Health Plan member have to be a patient at Empower Behavioral Health to sign up for Empowering Potty Time?   

No. Empowering Potty Time is a stand-alone program for eligible Driscoll Health Plan members, and you do not need to be a patient at Empower Behavioral Health to attend.

How do I reschedule if I am not able to attend the education session or the training session? 

If you cannot attend the 30-minute education session, please call Driscoll Health Plan Member Services at 1-877-324-7543. 

If you cannot attend the 3-to-4-hour individual training session, please call Empower Behavioral Health to reschedule.

The free educational session will provide the most details and answer your questions. Please review the schedule for the upcoming 30-minute education session. They are available in both English and Spanish. We encourage you to attend the educational session for the most information.

Once you have started the training session, you should direct all questions regarding specific toileting needs to Empower Behavioral Health.
